Sand Lake Medal Ceremony 1919

You may have noticed several references to “Medal received from the Town of Sand Lake.” In addition to medals and honors earned in military service, New York State also awarded medals to those who served, as did a number of localities. Sand Lake was no exception!

On September 13, 1919, the town held a ceremony at the Faith Community Hall in Averill Park, to honor its World War I veterans as well as five living veterans of the Civil War. The photo here appears in Images of America; Sand Lake and is captioned as follows:
